Traffic Explosion – How I doubled my blog traffic today

14 February 2007 0 views 5 Comments

A few days ago, I wrote a post explaining that my blog traffic is at its maximum capacity based on the links and networks(meaning Digg.com, technorati, etc.), and I would have to once again take some more steps in order to re-vitalize the growth. That was almost a week ago, and at that point I was averaging just under 300 unique visitors a day. So I planned out some changes to be made, and executed them promptly.

I took the actions as listed in that post, and to summarize, here they are.

  • Join up with mybloglog.com, del.icio.us, and stumbleupon.com.
  • Also display an avatar for mybloglog, and add the widget to my sidebar that shows the most recent visitors.
  • Kept posting new posts every day (on average, 2 a day) with the exception of the day when I was very very sick.

Also, I added another tactic I was willing to take, and that was to use SEQR, as explained in this post. And then I tracked my progress and the results were astonishing…

All these efforts were made, and my blog traffic was slowly on the increase, to average nearly 400 a day in the past few days. I will explain to you how my web stats work. These feeds are not live – to generate this feed live upon each hit, it would take too much from the database. So these files are generated through cron jobs. Mine go twice a day. By 2PM at the latest, I have the full summary for the day before, AND the visitors for the same day as of that point, so essentially half.

Well, today (February 14th, Valentine’s Day), I’ve hit over 300 unique visitors already and it’s only half the day. That used to be what I get in an entire day, but now I got it in half a day. I’m looking forward to what it would be at the end of the day.

Also, I would like to point out something else that I already mentioned - the strong correlation between the frequency of posts and blog traffic. February 9th was my sick day. Do you notice how my traffic almost halved, because I couldn’t write anything? But with the exception of that day, I am keeping a steady increase of traffic on average, and today I’m finally breaking a record for sure.

just to add, what sites do you get most of your traffic from? digg.com? buzzbums? delicious? I just want to know…

Digg seems to give me the most.

Technorati – not so much unless you have high rankings I guess…

Buzzbums gives me some, but the problem with them is that they only display the 5 top posts on the first page (used to be 10 in total) AND there are more people listed with them, so now the traffic is thinning.. If I get to a point where I get a lot of traffic from other places, and buzzbums becomes inefficient with no progress, I might just take my banner off my site and get off that site altogether.

Also, my comments on other websites and blogs and forums direct some traffic. I also put up some posts as a shared item on Facebook.com.

As for stumble/delicious, I do not know yet… I’ll post it when I find out!

I had not realized but I already using your seqr method. I write about many different topics. Now I may add some more topics to see how that goes. What I did not know, was about making 2 post per day. I will also try that.
