www.johnchow.comBlogging is one of those .com things that millions of people are flocking towards. But just like anything else, success isn’t easy to find. But if you do want to find an example of a successful blog, I know somebody from my area (Vancouver, BC) that has achieved it. His name is John Chow, and some of my friends in related fields (web design/development, graphics, marketing, etc.) introduced his blog to me.

His blog is at http://www.johnchow.com/

And here’s a glimpse of how and why he is successful with this :

Why do I like John’s blog?

  • There are so many useful tips on successful blogging, which is something I can apply to my business for my own blog, and for my clients who may want those things done.
  • He has some good tips on good Wordpress Plugins to use (read this).
  • His content is entertaining, and covers a wide variety of things. This gives a much more personable approach when it comes to people visiting his blog. If I wanted specialized news of specific sectors, I’d subscribe to the Forbes RSS feed (which I do actually). But with john’s blog it’s more of a conversation than a news station.
  • More about John’s content - He talks about his trips to Vegas, his electronics, blogging techniques, rambling about other websites (digg.com is an example), his fine dining experience (or NOT so fine dining as you can see here)
  • I’m sure he has great pagerank on Google. Putting my comments there would mean my blog gets picked up better too!

How well is he doing?

Here are some tips from John on how to become successful with blogging :

John is also quite active at tazzu.ca, which is an online forum for discussions on web development, SMEs, graphic editing, etc.

So there’s John Chow in a nutshell. He is quite well known in the local Vancouver community (which is where I am) and also online. If you want to be successful with blogging, or starting websites, check out his stuff. He owns numerous other websites which you can find on his blog. For him though, the blog is only a side-thing. The other websites are what really generates the revenue for him. He is a classic example of somebody living the free lifestyle with constant revenue off websites, without a pinned-down job! What a dream!

She tuckered me. figurative me to quilt her boundaries. As I did this my brow kept headlining uncertainly at my crotch.
