The RSS Feed Counter Cycles

February 23rd, 2007 by Jeff Kee | Blog Consulting and Advice | leave a response, or trackback

My RSS feeds throughout Thursday, February 22nd, was at 62, and all time high. When I checked it just now (after midnight on the 23rd) it dropped to 36. I was wondering if the quality of my posts just dropped drastically, but then I realized that John Chow’s RSS feeds went from 3,300 or so to 2,900 or so. I guess there is a cycle perhaps? A very interesting experiment would be to try to figure out a regular trend of when the RSS feed count drops or jumps.

Starting today I will be tracking my RSS feed count each day to see if there is a specific trend throughout the week perhaps. Friday was the day of the big drop. Let’s see when it climbs back up again. If anybody noticed any trends on this issue, please leave comments to share with all!

Holy Jeez Jeff! Your RSS is sinking fast! Haha. Looks like I’ll have to boost you up again. You think? ;) J/K

No, I think you’re right with the cycles. I keep tabs on other bloggers RSS counts just for my own analysis, and it’s usually the same across the board. One day they’re all higher and then lower, but they match their ups and downs. Maybe they’re the same group of people.

I don’t understand how my RSS count stays consistent even when I don’t post for a day. I’ll keep it up now for a while. I’m posting irregular so the testing is worthless.
