A Traffic Peak - for now

graph.jpgSo it seems, for now, my blog has reached more or less its maximum capacity. On an average day I get 300 unique visitors, and with more posts, I can hit over 400. But it has been there for over a week now, which indicates that I need to take another step to change it.

It’s sort of like a bottleneck for growth. Not a bottleneck for traffic - but growth. The growth rate is nearly 0 at this point. Throughout the last month or so, I’ve made improvments in the infrastructure of it in terms of SEO, layout, etc. I also put in new plugins such as the MyBlogLog, Digg Integrator, and I’m subscribed to Technorati. Another good symptom is that my technorati ranking went from 1.6 Millionth (mid or end of January) to 285,288. Of course, this doesn’t say too much - the closer you get to the peak the harder it is to climb. 5 millionth to 200,000 should be MUCH easier than 200,000 to 50,000 for sure.

So at this point I need to make another big move or two, or more, to increase the traffic from this point forward. Of course, constantly updating the blog with useful posts is a great thing, but also great is to open new sources of incoming traffic stream.

The first step I took was to install the “StumbleUpon” link on all of my posts. StumbleUpon is a service that provides users with random webpages within a specific category for their joy. I tried it out, and when I’m bored, I click my “Stumble” button on my toolbar and I get something interesting to read! If I like it, others will like it. And perhaps mine will show up on the random entries as well under some categories and generate some more traffic.

Also I will add a del.icio.us submit link on each post as well. This should add some traffic.

I will update you all on how that turns out within the next few days - if it had much of an effect or not. But I still believe that constant updating and good content is the greatest key for my blog, so I will keep that up!

Hi Jeff,

Great site you have running here! Love the way you go about explaining things in such down to earth and practical terms(and a great idea using Hot Issues as a category name, its really eye catching). Was just wondering if you would like to exchange links? I feel that your site is really a great resource and we could benefit from this exchange.

Feel free to drop me an email, and keep up the good work!

Sincerely,
verylegal

Jeff,

I am also working on getting some growth to my blog. In recent days I have taken many of the steps to submit my blog to other blog sites, lists and search engines, but I still have not witnessed any major traffic increases. Is it that I have to wait a few weeks for them to index me, or do I need to purchace some kind of link creation software? Also are you an SEO consultant, if so could you review my blog and give me some kind of clue or estimate on what it would take to increase my traffic from the current 20 hits per day up to 100 ?
