Kontera Text Ads Installed
By courtesy of a high-profile contact I have, I got approved for the Kontera Text Ads Program although my pageview threshold is below the minimum requirements. As you can see there are blue links being generated - apparantly this thing optimizes better over time, so it’ll take some time to work perfectly well, but it’s working now, and it makes my site look cool.
Although, some of the context links generated are total bogus, for example, this one that tells me to buy IE6 - it’s a free software anyhow.

In any case, I’ll let you posted on what this does to my website revenues.
Right now, it shows up sometimes, and other times it doesn’t - but Kontera did advise me it will take a few days to optimize completely to my site.

Let me guess, the high level contact was John Chow?
I’m not a big fan of that kind of advertising, but whatever works, I guess. Plus it doesn’t take up any screen real-estate, which is a plus.
haha shhhhhh!!!!
Personally, I thikn it looks tacky…but it obviiously has a purpose and as long as you see the benefits then all the power to you.
Eh. It makes money and makes my blog look important.
Any way to add it the RSS feed?
Don’t think so. It’s a javascript code you add at teh end of the page, near the tag.
Hey Jeff,
Congrats, lemme know how it works out for you.
I’ve heard good things from other friends adding contextual in-text ads like Kontera and IntelliTXT. The verdict seemed to be 30% revenue increase without adversely impacting AdSense revenue.
We signed up for Kontera too about 2 weeks ago ago and got an email a couple days later declining our application, because our site has “mature content”.
I sent them 2 follow-up emails asking them to let us know specifically what mature content they are referring to, because our content contains absolutely no nudity or graphic language of any sort. Haven’t heard anything back.
We’re a Dating, Relationship, Love, and Sex advice column - but there’s no nudity whatsoever, no profanity, etc. Are people so paranoid about even TALKING about sex?
I’m contemplating a well publicized article on censorship around topics dealing with sex, and the Kontera example.
Have an awesome day!
Dan
Dan,
Many times these new ad network technology platforms lack the ability to prevent certain advertisers from appearing on certain pages. As a result, all advertisers may appear on all publisher pages. The result is that they can’t take the risk of losing their big advertisers (e.g. when someone complains to Disney that they saw a Disney ad on a sex advice column…) that could crater the advertising network, just as it is starting to take off.
I wouldn’t take it personally… A valid question from you to them would be “when would your technology platform support segregation of ad inventory? and is this something you are looking to develop?”
Think about it, if they could separate their advertisers and publishers in this way then it would be a big financial boost to them, not just to you. At the moment the limitation in their offering introduces a catastrophic failure mode, the risk of which they just can’t accept.
Dat! I will sign-up for Kontera Text Ads too! Didn’t know that the allow website that dun meet requirements to sign-up too. Missed out on opportunities.
