Cisco’s lawsuit against Apple invalid???
I read this interesting article about the lawsuit that Cisco filed against Apple in order to stop the usage of the trademark iPhone. However, I foudn this other article below that suggests Cisco may have been playing naughty here.
Cisco lost rights to iPhone trademark last year, experts say by ZDNet’s Ed Burnette — ZDNet has uncovered new information that shows Cisco may not own the iPhone trademark after all, having abandoned it last spring due to lack of use. If true, this could mean that Apple is free to use the name for its own products.

and who led you to this article? i dont even get credit?
Do think this was a ploy by Cisco to stop Apple stocks from going higher and higher?
Eh. Corporate conspiracies.. anything is possible. Now, I didn’t read it in too much detail, but from the gist of it, it looks like Cisco tried to re-claim the trademark after not using it for a while, only because Apple showed the intention of using it.
So maybe they are doing this just to get a couple hundred million bucks out of Apple?
When it comes down to it there are two kinds of people in this world. People who copy apple ( microsoft, with vista ) and people who try and get money from apple. They obviously knew Apple was working on a cellular device, and what was the obvious choice for the name ? it had to follow the iLife marketing. Cisco clearly saw this as an easy way to make money so they jumped on it. I hope it backfires in their face.
You’re an apple whore. You’d have sex with Apple. I’m sure you already have sex with your mac every night. HA
All that said, I do think you have a point.. I’m kinda pulling towards that piece of conspiracy theory as well.
Well think of it logically….
apple spends millions of dollars a year on marketing. Their iLife campaign is incredibbly effective. it’s obvious as to why some other tech company’s would try and jump on the “i” name to get a free ride on apples marketing.
Im an apple whore because they do things properly, for their customers. Mac users are very loyal because they know what they do for their customers. I don’t see win-dohs users being like that…Yes their are some windows fanatics but most windows users just need a machine to use so they don’t care
Well the iPhone trademark’s been around for years actually. i-anything’s all over the place. Even Chapters has i-rewards, and their slogan is iread-isave-iam. Cheesy, but it is turning traffic towards their E-Commerce sales.
So basically what I sense is that they had no intention of going on with their trademark, and then when Apple brought it up last year, they jumped on an opportunity to be able to “sell” a trademark.
exactly
I thought it was Oracle that brought the iSomething into popularity.
I did a search on the US Trademarks and did not see Cisco’s trademark. Am I missing it?
Perhaps they left it out as pending due to the lawsuit? Who knows. Because the lawsuit has been officially filed.

Read that one too. It’s interesting.
It gets worse…

Holy crap.
This is a very interesting story to follow.
My opinion is slowly changing, at first i thought apple was just going to take the law suit, pay cisco and then use the name. however i think apple did their research very well, and quite possibly knew exactly what cisco owned rights to and if they were legitimate or not. opinions?
HOHO……..
