Who is Jeff Kee?
Time to get personal. I’ve met and known many of my loyal readers (and some first time readers may be reading this too - and if so I’d be flattered) and something I always try to do when I write my blogs is to assert a lot of my personality. As i discussed in my post regarding how blogging could create the ultimate democracy of our world, I acknowledged the influence of heavy personal bias in all of our publicly displayed posts, and the personal aspect of it is perhaps the greatest strength.
“I’m a guy, in case you hadn’t figured it out. XY Chromosomes, and plenty of hormones. I don’t get periods… yet.”
So. Here’s Jeff Kee in a nutshell.
I’m a guy, in case you hadn’t figured it out. XY Chromosomes, and plenty of hormones. I don’t get periods… yet. I have lived in Vancouver, British Columbia for the last 2.5 years or so, and for the last 9 months I’ve lived in the core of downtown (Coal Harbour first, and now Yaletown). I’ve been running my business in design/web/marketing/printing production for the last year and 4 months, and it’s going alright, and it continues to grow.
I’m originally from South Korea - a backyard state for the USA created under the heavy ideologies in the earlier stages of the Cold War. My family’s hometown is Kwangju - a city famous for its revolutionary and idealistic ways of living. We’ve been known for all the smarties who tried to change the ways of things (and the kings did NOT appreciate it over the course of our history). My mother was in the smack middle of everything when the greatest massacre in modern Korean history took place in 1980 that killed an estimated 3,000~5,000 civilians. The paratrooper actions were authorized by Ronald Reagan - hence, I almost never made it to this world because of American politics. It didn’t matter that the rally was for democracy - the military regime that was pro-Western (hence backed by the US regardless of their policies - they just wanted an ally in Asia. Democracy and freedom was not the real purpose for their support, and their authorization to use military power to quell the riot).
“… which gives me a great insight of world politics from a MUCH broader point of view than most people can imagine or experience”
I was born in 1985 - I’m 21 years old, turning 22 this year. I’ve lived in Seoul, Missouri USA (in a small hick town called Columbia), and then Kwangju, and now I’m in Canada - I’ve lived in 3 different countries spanning in 2 totally different continents throughout my life back and forth, which gives me a great insight of world politics from a MUCH broader point of view than most people can imagine or experience.
My greatest goal in life is to have a happy life. That involves many things - peace of mind, good friends, a clear consciounce, and of course, economic prosperity. The money aspect of it not only has to do with the luxury that it brings, but it’s moreso because part of my personality involves a very proud and ambitous nature, and to achieve it is a greater pleasure for me than to boast it and spend it (not that I don’t enjoy shopping for nice clothes). Another thing that makes me happy is how much I can help those around me. It has a lot to do with the loyalty trait that Koreans often show. I often do make sacrifices for my close friends whom I care deeply about.
I am heavily opinionated, and very well read in many different aspects of the world. There’s almost no topic I could not talk about with anybody - well-rounded is a compliment given to me very often. I’m also a very practical person when it comes to business. Because I understand many different things, I can apply them in flexible and appropriate ways to maximize the quality of my work. Also, my IQ which has measured as high as 161 helps in the process too. I’m a very fast learner in anything I try to learn.
“I perceive God as something much greater than some super-human figure that tells us when to have sex and when not to, who to liberate and what book they should read, by what name they should call God.”
I support the Liberal Party of Canada. I support the Democrats in USA. I do not support the war in Iraq because I know better than anybody else that the whole thing about making Iraq a better place with more freedom blah blah blah is a big sham. I’m not very religious at all but I am spiritual and believe in the great potential that we as human beings possess. God, to me, is a being greater than what is described in scriptures. It’s the very thought and the very concept that created the world as it is - quantum physics and all that, you know? I perceive God as something much greater than some super-human figure that tells us when to have sex and when not to, who to liberate and what book they should read, by what name they should call God.
“I don’t own a single hoodie, yet I own nice buttoned shirts, a black blazer, and a very precious goatskin leather jacket, as well as a beautiful pair of leather shoes.”
I have good taste in things, they say - I drink Vodka Tonic and wine (Red or White), and the occasional Alexandre Keiths or other craftsman-brewed beer from local breweries in BC. I listen to Jazz, Rock, Classical music, and I enjoy the occasional modern hip-hop type of things to enjoy at clubs and bars. I don’t enjoy rap at all. I dress well - I don’t own a single hoodie, yet I own nice buttoned shirts, a black blazer, and a very precious goatskin leather jacket, as well as a beautiful pair of leather shoes. I play music. I’m quite an amateur musician, equipped with a guitar, harmonicas, and my voice. I used to play the piano too but I don’t have one right now. I do plan to play again when I get a larger place, and a piano/keyboard.
I enjoy sushi a lot, as well as Korean food. And the occasional steak is lovely too. There’s a lot of middle-eastern food in Vancouver - how authentic they are is a whole other question but the ones here taste darn good, so I’m getting into it. Spicy food is something I also enjoy. I’m not fat. I’m in decent shape, and I try to be healthy with a good diet and a good excercise plan (although life gets busy, and sometimes I get lazy on top of that). There was a phase for nearly 2 years when I smoked a lot. That’s going in waves.. for a few months I was a non-smoker, and recently I’m doing it a bit more. I had some personal issues with somebody and stress drives me to do that dirty deed which I want to drop again.
“I have a mind of my own, I am very independent, and I love power.”
I never went to school after highschool. I jumped straight into the workforce, and then started my own business. All my design/coding skills as purely self-taught, and the learning curve only gets steeper. I love living a dynamic free life where I have a great degree of control over my own destiny and my path. I’m a bit of a control freak in some ways - but that’s OK. It’s better than being somebody who will sit there and do what others tell me to do all the time. I have a mind of my own, I am very independent, and I love power.
I have a good sense of intelligent/dirty humour, although my buddy Liah gets annoyed by all the sexual/naughty jokes I pull when I’m with her. But she still loves me, it’s OK. Her mom, however, appreciates my funniness a lot more. She says she’ll find and hook me up with a good-looking woman from Costa Rica (she’s going there soon with business).

Jeff, it’s Alexander Keiths - Not - Alexandre Keiths
God, it’s the proper spelling geek in me.. I know it went from centre to center, and from metre to meter, but ya, that’s a name that I mis spelt!! haha
Hey Jeff,
Thanks for clarifying the guy part. Although I’ve gotta admit I had a hunc ever since your expose on Jane’s MyBlogLog profile. LOL.
I’ve often said that blogs are so amazingly popular because of that voyeuristic curiosity - we all want to get a peek into someone’s life, what they’re holding back. Same with MySpace and many others. Also we’re all so disconnected these days being “online” so much, that any human contact is craved more than ever before.
Seriously, thanks for sharing, very cool. Keep keepin’ it real!
Have an awesome day!
Dan
Hey Dan, thanks for noticing I am a guy!
haha
Jeff, Ihave to say “well rounded” doesn’t come close to describing your multi faceted persona! You make me laugh so much:) I would have never guessed you had your own mind, loved power and independent—-you? C’mon! lol
You say you are not getting periods–yet? You aren’t expecting any on the horizon are you? LOL
Very funny man! I hate to say “young man,” because the only standard that qualifies you as “young” would be a mere number. But then again, to say you are certainly an overachieved motivated young man would put it in a better perspective:)
